Battery Ghar Team · September 3, 2026 · UPS Batteries
UPS batteries rarely fail without warning. Recognising the early signs lets facility teams plan a replacement during a maintenance window instead of reacting to an outage.
Warning signs
- Backup time noticeably shorter than the original design
- Frequent UPS battery alarms or failed self-tests
- Swollen, cracked or leaking battery cases
- Rising internal resistance or falling conductance in test reports
- Batteries approaching the end of their rated design life
- Uneven block voltages within the same string
Planning checklist
- Confirm UPS model, DC bus voltage and number of strings
- Record existing battery make, model, capacity and dimensions
- Verify the required backup time for today’s load, not the original load
- Check rack or cabinet condition, cables and terminal hardware
- Agree a shutdown or bypass plan with IT and facility teams
- Arrange buyback and responsible recycling of old batteries
- Schedule commissioning tests and a baseline health report
Replace the full string
Mixing new and old batteries in one string causes imbalance and shortens the life of the new batteries. Replacing complete strings with matched batteries protects both reliability and your investment.
