The right traction battery and charger keep a forklift fleet productive across every shift. Selection starts with the truck and the way it is used.
Match the forklift specification
Voltage, battery compartment dimensions and minimum battery weight are set by the forklift manufacturer. In counterbalance trucks, the battery contributes to stability, so weight must not be reduced below specification.
Size capacity to the shift pattern
Capacity (Ah) should support a full shift without discharging the battery beyond the recommended depth of discharge. Multi-shift operations may need spare batteries, opportunity charging or lithium technology.
Choose the technology
- Flooded lead-acid: economical, needs watering and a charging area
- Low-maintenance lead-acid: reduced watering requirement
- Lithium: fast and opportunity charging, no watering, longer cycle life
Match the charger
The charger must suit the battery chemistry, voltage and capacity, and the time available for charging. High-frequency chargers offer better efficiency and controlled charging profiles.
Standardising batteries and chargers across a fleet simplifies maintenance, spares and replacement planning.
